New Class at MIPA: Infographics

Students in Karl Gude's Infographics class were given this question: if you could create a cell phone that could do anything, what would you have yours do?
Then, they were given their task: using what you've learned, create an infographic that explains your future-phone. The Bananaphone's my fave, but Click here to see all of the ones they came up with!

It's De-MIPA

A little disappointed at the participation in tonight's karaoke contest, but the groups that performed had a blast. And Betsy rocked, as always. And what about Julia and Ryan, and everyone else who joined them? Dang, those cats can blow!
Click on the play button above to hear Chad's song about the week.

Skateboarding Madness

Tim Morley's sports photography class headed to the East Lansing skate park to shoot photos of the aspiring boarders. Take a look at some behind-the-scenes video.

Karaoke Tonight

Are you ready to be a star in front of all your fellow students? Make sure your class signs up for karaoke by 1 p.m. Wednesday!

Confidential Information

Students attending the workshop this week have the chance to see a sneak preview of the film Stardust on Tuesday night at Wells Hall. It opens in theaters Friday, Aug. 10.

Security has been very tight - the 35mm prints were delivered to the MIPA office by a courier under lock and key, and the staff members are not able to open the print until four hours prior to the screening.

You can watch a trailer for the movie on the Apple Web site.

Futureshock: Infographics Cell Phones

Here are the examples of work created by students in Karl Gude's Infographics class at the MIPA summer workshop:

It's De-MIPA Lyrics

It's De-MIPA
I feel a sudden urge to sing a song of journalistic things
This song must evoke the theme of Bond and of secret things
Now that I’ve started I think I see this verse lacks a Bondage quality
Crap, I just said “bondage” so before I get fired let’s make this song go

Mi, mi, mi, mi -- Pa, pa, pa, pa --Mi, hee-hee-hee-hee-pa...

The food is cold, the night is hot It’s the perfect place to learn Photoshop
It’s delightful, it’s delicious, it’s de-MIPA

I went to see a free movie ‘cause someone said there’d be nudity
That’s delightful, it’s DeNiro, it’s de-MIPA

I’m on top of the world, ‘cause there’s nine guys and 400 girls
But then I try and I fail to get them alone; just throw me a bone!

I’ve tried, no luck, to get Betsy Bucks, if I don’t get one, well, that would suck
It’s de-moolah, It’s de bling bling, it’s de millionaire, it’s de-Benjamins,
It’s de Cheddah, it’s dinero, it’s de-cash it’s de-MIPA

A button prize, confuses me A stranger’s face, that I can’t see
It’s deceiving, it’s de-hopeless, it’s de-MIPA.

My roommate stinks, our room does, too It smells just like the monkey house at the zoo
It’s decrepit, it’s decompost, it’s de-MIPA.

And my text said that were ‘bout to be out of toilet paper
Hey, what’s next, text is so so out-of-date Ask Justin Timberlake!
[bringin’ texting back]

Caught in the rain, to my dismay, I won’t dry out until labor Day
It’s a flood, dear, it’s a deluge, It’s de-cats-and-dogs, It’s de cumulus,
It’s de nimbus. It’s de downpour. It’s de flood. It’s de-MIPA.

Not one more bite of that dorm food, it’s time to call the pizza dude
It’s Digiorno, it’s de-Papa John’s, it’s de-MIPA.

I dressed like a spy to win a cool prize Finally got a pair of styrofoam dice
They’re de-tacky, it’s defective, they’re de-fabulous!

And this summer our theme is James Bond and other spy things
but there’s one Bond character whose name we’ve ignored: Pussy Galore.

Now that our time is almost through, I want to spend another week with you.
It’s de-writing. It’s de-photo, It’s de-graphics, It’s de-InDesign.
It’s de-Bobby. It’s de-Bunka, It’s de-Besty, It’s de-MIPA!

When you go home, to your own little pad Just once in awhile, think of Betsy and Chad.
It’s delightful, it’s delicious, it’s de-MIPA.
